Job Description

Duty Station: Kathmandu, with 20% travel to project sites and partner organizations.
Estimated start date: as soon as possible

About the position: This position holder will be part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) of Karuna- Shechen Nepal. Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the holder of this position will oversee all the activities of 5 thematic areas, and ensure all the processes and tools used in Karuna- Shechen Nepal are up to highest standards.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and set goals for programs according to the values, mission, and the strategic plan of the organization
  • Work with the team to plan the programs from start to completion involving deadlines, milestones and processes; and coordinate with Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEAL) Department for comprehensive learning outcome of the programs.
  • Maintain strong cooperation with the Administration and Finance Department to ensure compliance
  • Collaborate with the Human Resource (HR) Department to assess staff capacity assessment and enhancement
  • Join forces with different teams in Karuna-Shechen to prepare and organize different activities, reports, trainings and workshops

Essential Duties:

1. Initiate and set goals for programs according to the values and missions, and the strategic plan of the organization.

  • Keeping in mind the working values and missions of the organization, plan, directly supervise and provide inputs for any activities undertaken by the Program Department in particular, and the organization in general
  • Internalize Strategic Plan of the organization in all programs; and provide inputs to align the programs with strategic direction of the organization
  • Deeply familiarize oneself with the values of the organization, in order to assess program's strength, and identify areas of improvement

2. Work with the team to plan the programs from start to completion involving determination of deadlines, milestones and processes; and coordinate with Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEAL) Department for comprehensive learning outcome of the programs. 

  • Work with Program Officers and MEAL Department to develop research and conduct baseline surveys
  • Be a significant part of the proposal writing team in close collaboration with MEAL and Admin & Finance Departments
  • Analyze the program’s terms of impact, sustainability and prevalent risks
  • Drive the process to set timelines and develop logical frameworks for the proposals
  • Work with Program Officers to ensure activities are planned every month, and executed accordingly
  • Perform assessments to find out the key stakeholders that can influence the programs  and manage relationships with them
  • In close collaboration with Admin & Finance Department, develop monthly budget expenses forecast, and ensure the expenses are executed as per the policies of the organization
  • Ensure Program Officers prepare reports after every activity and are submitted timely to the Director and other Department Heads
  • Prepare monthly summary report of the activities conducted each month to be presented to the Director
  • Be a part of the monthly meetings with Department Heads and Director to evaluate the monthly activities, and plan future activities

3. Maintain a strong cooperation with Administration and Finance Department to ensure compliance when undertaking any project expenses.

  • Organize meeting with Finance and Admin department to ensure smooth operation of program activities without any financial setbacks;
  • Cross check periodic financial report to corroborate them with activities conducted and project progress status
  • Ensure expenses incurred for activities are as per the funds available and in compliance with the spending guidelines

4. Collaborate with the Human Resource (HR) Department to assess staff capacity assessment and enhancement.

  • Cooperate with HR Department to set individual goals for the staff, bearing in mind their strengths and areas of improvements
  • Contribute directly to staff evaluation of Program Department and yearly performance reviews
  • Serve in the Committee during the employment process for the staff that is directly linked with the Program Department
  • Assist HR to develop various capacity building programs such as trainings, workshops, orientations etc. for the staff of the Program Department
  • Join forces with different teams in Shechen Karuna to prepare and organize different activities, reports, trainings and workshops
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director

Qualifications:

Professional qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in relevant field with a minimum of 10-12 years of experience of designing and implementing community development projects and programs
  • In-depth understanding of program/project cycle, management methods, key performance indicators and project evaluation methods
  • Proficiency in project management software such as MS Project, MS Office, MS Excel and software like Base Camp
  • In-depth knowledge of data analysis and budgeting
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Nepali and English languages
  • Ability to create and implement budgets

Personal qualifications

  • Reliable, and demonstrate professionalism and integrity
  • Results-oriented team player with very good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able and willing to learn and acquire new knowledge relevant to the function
  • Excellent social and interpersonal communication skills and team spirit

Note: Salary of NPR 135,000 - 140,000 per month based on experience and skills
