Raleigh International Nepal (RIN) is a subsidiary of RIUK and has been working in Nepal since 2015. Our Country office is in Khumaltar, Lalitpur Nepal. We promote the role of young people in decision making and civil society, creating meaningful youth employment and enterprise, protecting vulnerable environments, and combating climate change, and ensuring Sustainable livelihood and the right to safe water and sanitation.

LOCATION: Country Office, Lalitpur, Nepal with as needed national travel 
SALARY: Based on Raleigh International Nepal Policy 
REPORTS TO: Country Operations Manager

Contract Type: 1-year Fixed Term (with possibility of extension) 

About the Role

Volunteer Journey Officer (VJO) has an important role in Raleigh International Nepal’s (RIN’s) volunteer recruitment and support strategy, with a focus on youth. VJO is responsible for the marketing, recruitment, retention and exit pathways of RIN’s National Volunteers and Volunteer Managers. VJO is responsible to represent and advertise Raleigh and its Expedition programme, to seek out potential volunteer candidates, recruit and train them, and fulfill an important role in the management and deployment of National volunteers. RIN is envisaging VJO who has connections, networks and broad awareness of where potential volunteers could be sourced, are able to conduct promotional and information sessions for prospective volunteers and can facilitate the recruitment of Nepali volunteers. VJO also trains and prepares National volunteers to participate in RIN’s Expedition programmes and play a role in pastoral support and motivation for national and international volunteers. VJO also helps in Crisis management and Duty Manager System when required while supporting volunteers with their personal development during the Expedition cycle.

Roles and Responsibilities 

Recruitment and Volunteer Support 

  • Support to develop a volunteer recruitment strategy, to define target audiences for all volunteering roles, and recruitment methodology (online and offline) to ensure target volunteer numbers are met and recruitment activities are within the budget. 
  • Develop tools to monitor, report on and evaluate delivery of the recruitment strategy e.g. recruitment funnel and diversity data
  • Effectively record volunteer data using relevant Raleigh International databases
  • Build relationships with corporate, professional, and academic bodies, youth CSOs, and other stakeholders to ensure volunteer referrals
  • Handle incoming enquiries from young people and potential referral partners interested in Raleigh programmes 
  • Regular engagement with potential volunteers by phone, email and social media to encourage applications 
  • Use social media channels to effectively communicate with target audiences to network and promote relevant discussions 
  • Develop marketing materials and copy that adhere to Raleigh’s objectives and brand guidelines
  • Deliver open events, external talks and fairs when required
  • Ensure the delivery of National Volunteer Recruitment targets
  • Support the team to ensure volunteers and VMs are managed and deployed safely and effectively

Training and Events 

  • Support the implementation of the Youth in Civil Society (YiCS) strategy 
  • Deliver volunteer assessment, pre and post departure training, post program events and support events  
  • Design and deliver high quality pre-placement training events for all volunteering roles, that complement the overall learning journey, and support the learning curriculum delivered by RIN’s team
  • Develop and implement training and support processes for all volunteer roles, in accordance with organizational KPIs
  • Review and evaluate all volunteer training and support events, processes, and tools.
  • Share best practice, ideas, learning and successes within the team and organization-wide to maximize the effectiveness of learning and support activities
  • Support the delivery of VM and volunteer induction events  
  • Support the team in delivery of review and debrief sessions during different events as and when required 
  • Provide support to operations and programmes teams to ensure projects are implemented against agreed plans, standards, and criteria 

Promotion 

  • Work in a team with the Communications Officer and others to design and develop content to promote Raleigh’s Expedition programme and volunteer opportunities 
  • Support the development of RIN media collateral and content to enhance recruitment and retention of National Volunteers
  • Represent Raleigh, as required, at youth networks or other relevant events and symposia
  • Work collaboratively to enhance National specific promotional content, collateral and promotional opportunities 

Safety 

  • Support to ensure that safety standards are maintained, and Raleigh’s safety culture is communicated effectively to all staff, volunteer staff and participants in line with organizational policy
  • Crisis Management – assist with the coordination and day to day management of the plan and response to incidents supported by Operations Team when required 
  • Duty Manager – when required, form part of a rotating team responsible for the out of hours duty call system.

Other Responsibilities 

  • Where needed and as required, travel to RIN programme sites and communities to support volunteers
  • Perform administrative and data management tasks to ensure accurate record keeping
  • Perform support, administrative or other task which are reasonably requested by the Line Manager 
  • Adhere to and comply with RIN policies and procedures including specifically Privacy and Confidentiality, Code of Conduct and Safety/Safeguarding

Requirements 

Essential Skills And Qualifications

  • Professional experience working with young people in Nepal
  • Experience in a youth focused role or organization or qualifications specific to working with young people
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline such as development studies, management, social work or similar field of studies
  • Experience with volunteers and volunteer mobilization 
  • Experience of working with young people 
  • Experience in meeting deadlines, effective use of resources and in multidisciplinary teams
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills including working cross-culturally
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Nepali and English 

Desirable 

  • Experience of a volunteer role at Raleigh’s Expedition programme or working in a development organization (NGO or INGO) will be highly regarded
  • Experience in working with stakeholders which surround young people including parents/caregivers, schools/colleges, youth groups/clubs
  • Established networks or insights into youth networks where potential volunteers might be sourced
  • Experience with conflict resolution and supporting young people, including young people from vulnerable backgrounds
  • Experience of database management and record keeping 
  • Experience of interpreting database information 
  • Experience in promotion, event design and facilitation, recruitment and support. 

Other Information

Holiday Entitlement

As per the Raleigh International Nepal’s National Personnel Regulation, the holiday entitlement for full time staff is 25 working days per year, plus 13 public holidays. 

Office hours

Normal office hours are Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm. Staff may be required to work longer hours at events and during busy periods, including weekends, but time can be claimed back using the Time Off In Lieu policy.
